I really like old homesteads: their character, self-sufficiency, link to the past and usual decrepid condition. This property is on the outskirts of town where we used to live and is set back from the road quite a ways. Ames and I had driven by here several times and often wondered about its history. I did a little digging and soon discovered that former U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy lived here during his youth in the early 1900's. The people that own the property now do little to maintain it other than mow the grass. The owners occasionally grant people permission to photograph the property because of its unique history.
I was thankful to be able to take a few pictures here several years ago. Such a neat piece of property. Oh what a person could do with this place around Halloween...
What a great place for a haunt! Apart from the obvious safety concerns of course <:O
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, I used to look for old homesteads and liked to find some kind of plant that I could take home and transplant to remind me of where I went. Cheap way to fill a "secret garden".
ReplyDeleteEmme Toaye - That's a good way to keep those memories alive.
